Festive? I think not.

*does happy dance*

It's over! It's over! It's over! Yip-yip-yip-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I just LOVE Christmas

/sarcasm

Yep, I am HAPPY it is OVER for another year. All that fuss, rushing round, getting cranky thinking 'Ooooh I must get that for blah blah blah and that for blah' or 'Shit, I forgot wrapping paper'.

I am not a Christian and I do not enjoy Christmas at all. To me it's a money grabbing greed-fest...and yet each year I partake in the hope that I will one day enjoy the festivities. I know that I could enjoy it just for the family being together, but the truth is that I have a VERY small family nowadays (ie mum, stepdad, sis, brother in law and nephew) and we see each other regularly anyway, so Christmas doesn't make our get togethers any more special than what they are normally *sigh* plus celebrating Christmas makes me feel like a hypocrite...blahdy blah blah

I think 2008 will see me working on a plan to organise MY kind of Yuletide festivity. Whatever that may be LOL

While I may not enjoy this time of year, I do hope everyone here had a lovely time and that 2008 brings you every happiness :)
Take care people xxx

I hear ya! I'm really not into Christmas these days. Just a load of stress for not very much, unless there are kids in the house. Just new year's eve now which I dislike even more lol.

Yeah, well ...

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. We wait until this time of year to tell everyone we love that we love them--when we should be telling them that all the time, by how we treat them.

Agree that it's mostly a commercial production nowadays, dedicated to the proposition that you need to spend, spend, spend in order to properly celebrate Jesus' birthday, even if you believe in other ways.

But I'm wishing you a happy 2008, exciting adventures, amusing stories to share with us, and maybe even a corset that really fits.

I've just always found new year's eve a bit anticlimactic I guess. Even as a child of about 9 or 10, I didn't get it. Over here in London (as I'm sure is the case in all cities), prices get hiked up by ridiculous amounts so if you want to go out you end up spending a fortune. London is expensive enough even on "normal" days lol! A lot of people here have house parties instead. I'll definitely be having a quiet one anyway! Hope you have a good one!

Yeh, it's same here in Sheffield. You can't go out unless you have plenty of cash to get a taxi home..

I have to admit that I'm not much of a fan of New Year celebrations either, if I'm invited to a party, I will go and enjoy myself, but if not then I won't get upset about it. I usually find myself in bed for 11pm anyway as it's not much fun watching a load of bollocks and fireworks on tv *yawn* big fucking WOW LOLOL

Nah, I'll stick to just saying 'Happy New Year' ;D

Oh you're in England?! I had assumed you were either American or Canadian for some reason lol! Yep new year's is a big yawn generally.

Well, as a Christian, I tend to agree with you about the blatant commercialism of Christmas, which seems to worsen every year! There was a time when I enjoyed the holiday and all of the pretty lights and what have you that accompanied the season, but personally believe that the "Spirit of Christmas" should be celebrated year round - in how we treat others, give gifts and such. The majority of holiday decorations are actually more closely tied to pagan beliefs that Christianity, so I think it's rather odd that so many folks (especially Christians) go full bore in the decorating department. The truth behind many of the Christmas traditions we see nowaday are cleverly disguised as "what ya gotta do" & would probably cause many a follower of the Christ child to gasp & faint.

As for the New Year's celebration - over rated, over priced and just another cause for the merchants to pick our pockets. I'm planning on staying home, quietly with my critters and ending the year in a positive, peaceful manner - eating my traditional black-eye peas & collard greens for prosperity and doing something creative. Yeah, it's silly, but if there's the slightest chance that might help, I'm gonna give it a go.

Oh & btw - here's wishing you & yours a blessed holiday & New Year! :)

our christmas was less than joyous but I do love the season and being with family and friends, however I get sick of the commercialism too, people get insane about shopping!

It's not the same for me anymore either. having my boy home was what mattered to me, everything else just got in the way. I think we should start spending the holidays somewhere warmer and where we can just hang out and have some fun... Vegas or Mexico or somewhere. That'd probably be a cheaper Xmas anyway and certainly a lot less work.
